Hippo Love (Rakkautta ja virtahepoja), the new feature from director Dome Karukoski, opens in Finnish cinemas today, September 25, distributed by Nordisk Film. Panu Aaltio composed the original score.
The film is based on Emmi-Liia Sjöholm’s novel Virtahevot, adapted for the screen by Sjöholm and Karukoski. Pihla Viitala, Aku Sipola and Jenni Vartiainen lead the cast in a story set over a single evening at a Finnish-Greek wedding in Greece, where two strangers facing breakups are drawn to each other. It was produced by Marko Talli for Yellow Film & TV, together with Avaton Films.
The film continues Aaltio’s collaboration with Karukoski, whose The Home of Dark Butterflies and HARPA-winning Little Siberia he also scored.
The film had its gala premiere on September 10.
